PSP with Version 6.20 of the official firmware (DO NOT GET ANYTHING NEWER THAN THIS!) A PSP USB Cable or a method to PSP Pro Duo Memory Cards reader for PCs The Patapon 2 Demo (Available at ) Hacked Patapon 2 Demo savefile, Wololo's Half-Byte Loader, and TN HEN B (This can be all downloaded in one rar file at ) Optional: Prometheus ISO Loader (Available at ) Disclaimer: The following tutorial is for educational purposes only. Using this tutorial may void the warranty on your PSP.
In addition, Amp and SoldierX cannot be held responsible for any damage that occurs to this console in this process. (Granted, the chance of this bricking a console is one in fifty million.) With this in mind, please exercise caution when using this.
In addition to this, for those who can install custom firmware or have a PSP that can use my prior homebrew tutorials, do not use this guide. The first reason for this is that there is no point since this is very new and does not have quite a few of the features that custom firmware does. Second, homebrew compatibility with this HEN is currently very low, but should improve since some homebrew developers are updating releases to work with this. This guide is meant for owners of the PSP-Go and those who have PSPs with firmware beyond version 5.03, but not any newer than version 6.20.
In 2009, I released a guide that allowed for people to get custom firmware capabilities on PSP-2000s that used the TA-088v3 motherboard and all PSP-3000s. The reality is though that there were some people are either were stuck with a PSP Go, which cannot utilize ChickHEN, or updated their firmware to something newer than 5.03. Fortunately, as long as they were not foolish enough to update beyond 6.20 they can receive some of these features now. On Christmas Eve, a new homebrew enabler was released by TotalNoob that allows for homebrew. In addition, a homebrew program was released that allowed for loading ISO and CSO files. While this is not as elegant as prior custom firmware solutions, this is still a good start. Before continuing this tutorial, download version 6.20 of the official PSP firmware if it has not already been installed.
DO NOT use a newer version of the firmware as it will not work. From there, download the files required to launch the HEN that are linked in the prerequisites section.
Upon downloading these files, open the patapon 2 RAR and place the UCUS98734 folder in ms0:/PSP/GAME so the demo will work. Then, open the TNHENB RAR and place all files in the root directory (ms0:/ in other words) of the memory card.
Print and download AC/DC Back in Black Guitar TAB. Includes Guitar TAB. In order to write a review on digital sheet music you must first have purchased. Back in black sheet music guitar. Back in Black - AC/DC - free sheet music and tabs for fingered bass, saw wave, overdrive guitar and drums. Learn this song on Jellynote with our interactive sheet music and tabs. Play along with youtube video covers. Print and download AC/DC Back in Black Guitar TAB Transcription. In order to write a review on digital sheet music you must first have purchased the item.
If the operating system asks about merging directories, say yes and let it do so. Now all files to execute this are in place, the HEN can be ran. Run the Patapon 2 demo from the XMB by going to game, selecting Memory Stick, and selecting the demo.
When the demo asks to create a new save file, select no. Then when it asks if you want to continue playing anyways without system data, select yes. In the main menu of the demo, select continue and select the save that shows. (It should have an icon that says HEN 6.20 on it to represent the modified save.) When it loads, pretty any button to go into the game then press the right trigger to launch the half-byte loader, which in turn will automatically load TN HEN-B. From here, you now have the capability to run homebrew from a PSP and by hitting the select button on the XMB, can utilize features from the VSH menu. For running ISOs, the Prometheus ISO loader can be downloaded and installed by opening the RAR file and placing the main folder of the program in ms0:/PSP/GAME. This allows for it to be ran by going to game, selecting memory stick, and selecting Prometheus ISO Loader in the XMB.
Just make sure to create an ISO folder on the root directory of the memory card and place all ISO and CSO files there. January 29th, 2011 update: This tutorial is being preserved mainly for posterity, but I am doing a small update as TN HEN-C was released recently which has made a large portion of this tutorial mostly obsolete. The reason for this is that this version has been signed so that it can be placed in ms0:/PSP/GAME and launched from the XMB by going to game, selecting memory stick, and simply selecting the program. No exploits are required for this version and as a bonus it is able to connect to the Playstation Network. For those interested in checking this out, feel free to download it.
In the following I will write a detailed guide on how to update your PSP to the newest hackable Firmware and how to install the newest (Light) Custom Firmware. This will not be a fancy guide. Don't await any fancy graphics, this will be a simple text guide with a few screenshots to help you. Foreword: This guide will be divided into 5 parts. A Custom Firmware for Firmware 6.20, one for Firmware 6.35 and one for Firmware 6.39. I also added the downgrading option for the people who want to have the permanent 6.20.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PSP. This tutorial was created by me, but every program in this thread was created by others.
Differences between 6.20 PRO, 6.35 PRO and 6.39 PRO: The main difference between those two is, that the 6.20 PRO can be installed permanently. That means, if you turn off the PSP, that it is still installed. The 6.35 PRO and 6.39 PRO can only be installed temporarily and will be erased as soon as you turn off your PSP. This is due to the new checks that were build in the 6.35. A permanent patch for it would require a lot of work. If a permanent patch for 6.35 get's released, I will update this thread to reflect the new changes. The compatibility should be nearly or exactly the same for backups, homebrew and plugins.
The 6.20 PRO can't be installed permanently on every PSP. Some new models of the PSP 3000 (9g) doesn't allow you to install it permanently.
On this PSP's, you can only install the 6.20 PRO temporarily or the 6.35 PRO 9g is limited to PSP 3000, so if you have a PSP 1000, 2000 or Go, you don't need to worry about it. Information about 9g's: Newer PSP 3000 models come with Firmware 6.35. They have the modelnumber 9g and new drivers. These PSP's can't be downgraded to 6.20 ( DON'T TRY IT, YOU WILL RECEIVE A BRICK) and you can't install the 6.20 PRO permanently to the PSP.
If you have a PSP 3000 and installed your PRO, always look into the System Information and notice what g you have. If your g is something else than 9, you can downgrade and install the 6.20 PRO permanently. If your PSP is 9g, you can only install the Custom Firmwares temporarily. Advantages: The PSP Scene developed a lot.
We came a long way from downgraders, different Exploits and the discovery of the Pandora Battery. Today, we can put a Custom Firmwares on our PSP with very small effort. Old Custom Firmwares were mostly limited to older Firmwares that were patched very fast. Today, things like the easy install of Custom Firmwares are possible due to signed eboots. In my opinion, these new Custom Firmwares are better then the old Custom Firmwares. They are much easier to install and games that needed patches to work on old Custom Firmwares, work without problems now.
Meet the requirements: First, you need to know on what Firmware you are right now. To do this, turn on your PSP,scroll all the way to the left and scroll down until you see the System Settings and press X. Scroll down again until you see the System Information and press X again.
There are 3 points right now System Software: X.XX Nickname: MAC Address: If your System Software is lower than 6.35 or is exactly 6.35, this tutorial can help you on your way to homebrew. Next you download the, put it on your PSP's memorystick and run it.
It shows what kind of PSP you have (only important for PSP 3000, others can be ignored). If your PSP has 9g, you can't install the 6.20 permanent and can't downgrade to 6.20. PSP's with 9g can only be downgraded to 6.35 to run the 6.35 PRO or the 6.39 PRO (without the need of downgrading). Now comes the most important part. If you want the 6.20 Custom Firmware, which can be installed permanently, please look at the first part.
If your Firmware is over 6.20, but under or exactly 6.35, you can install the 6.35 Light Custom Firmware. For this, look at the second part. I reflected the installation of the 6.39 one on the third part. THIS IS FOR 6.20 What you need: A memory stick with enough space/enough space on your PSP Go. If your Firmware is below 6.20: Download the 6.20 update. It comes as an EBOOT.PBP, if not, rename it this way. Connect your PSP to your Computer and copy the EBOOT.PBP into the folder PSP/GAME/UPDATE.

When you open your PSP, there should be a folder called PSP, inside should be a folder called GAME, inside the folder should be a folder called UPDATE. It should look like this: When it looks like this, just turn your PSP on, go to the memory stick and start the UPDATE. Follow the explanation and your PSP is updated to Firmware 6.20. If your Firmware is 6.20 and you want to install the Custom Firmware permanently: The permanent patch is only installable if you have a PSP belog 9g.
Trying to install the permanent patch on a PSP 9g will brick the PSP. To know what g you have, install the 6.20 PRO-B6 (but not the permanent patch) and look into the system information. At the very bottom, you can see what g you have. Download the 620PRO-B9.rar I linked above.

Many many thanks to Coldbird and VFlame. They are the creators of this superb Custom Firmwares. It is really one of my favorites. I can understand all the people who'd like their GEN and M33 firmwares, but sometimes you just got to change a running system to make things better Credits to aminemaster for the two pics from the 6.20 permanent installation.
I installed the 6,35 pro just before i read this tut. And it was a pain just to findout how (on this and other forums). It took me days and than still it wasn't clear (but i am a total noob for psp i even had to do research on the abrev XMB:-) ) and still didn know the use of the fast-recovery until i read this Maybe u can add a downgrade part 6.35 - 6.20 (or just say if its possible or not) And mention the difference in iso loading (build-in on 6.35 vs isotool on 6.20) And maybe mention the excistence of the m33 (and maybe other) firmwares and optionally make clear why these are out of scope in this tut.
Thanks, very clear and easy to follow instructions. I have a PSP 3000 piano black in the mail ( expect to get it delivered in the next couple of days ) and I can't wait to hack it. Hopefully, it's not gonna be one of those new naughty unhackable firmware on it, or the whole 9g business, I got it new from Amazon. I played almost everything on the DS, now it seams a good time to own a PSP. Cheaper then ever, easy to hack, and a vastly catalog of games to choose from. At least, it's gonna keep me busy until the 3DS gets a decent library as well.
Let's just hope I'm gonna be able to hack it. By the way, what are the chances that a piano black PSP3000 comes with a firmware 6.35?
Download: The 6.20 LME-1.9 custom firmware for the PSP can now be installed permanently. The permanent patcher is able to let your PSP automatically boot into the LME CFW, it just has to support the firmware 6.20. The 6.20 LME-1.9 permanent is compatible with the PSP 1000, PSP 2000 (old and TA-088v3), PSP 3000 (03g, 04g & 09g) and the PSP Go. The patcher is working as intended. It is now available for download! Enjoy this little demonstration of a permanent version of the best PSP CFW there is, now also for the newer 'unhackable' PSP devices.
PSP motherboard overview If we take a closer look at the PSP motherboard overview, we can see that nearly every PSP model is able to run the 6.20 official firmware, or is old enough to run a custom IPL CFW. The only not supported devices are the PSP 3000 (07g) and the PSP E1000, due to not being able to run the official firmware 6.20. Despite actually not supporting the firmware 6.20, the PSP 3000s (09g) are able to forcefully downgrade to firmware 6.20, thanks to the Chronoswitch v5 downgrader. The other PSPs natively support the official firmware 6.20. If you are already running the LME custom firmware, then you might want to downgrade to the firmware 6.20, and install a permanently patched 6.20 LME-1.9 custom firmware, since this will enable you to automatically boot into your LME CFW. Furthermore it enables you to fix semi-bricks, thanks to the recovery menu access on startup.
The revision update 1.9 for the 6.20 ME and 6.20 LME custom firmwares fixes a few bugs that were introduced due to porting the CFWs to the firmware 6.20. Those bugs are not present in the lastest version of the 6.39/6.60 L/ME CFWs. Download: Download: Download: Download: Source via.
